The Best Time to Visit San-Pédro for Coastal Travel and Taï National Park
August 29, 2026 · last updated · about 3 min read
Weather and Seasons
San-Pédro has an equatorial coastal climate with high humidity and consistent temperatures near 27–30°C. Daylight spans roughly twelve hours daily.
December to March: Dry Season
This is the most reliable travel window. Rainfall is low, though northern Harmattan winds can introduce dust haze in January. Unpaved inland routes stay passable, and coastal waters are relatively calm.
May to July: Heavy Monsoon
Torrents peak in May and June, causing localized flooding. Overcast skies dominate, and dirt roads leading northwest into the forest turn impassable.
August to November: Intermittent Rains
August offers a short, cloudy respite with cooler sea breezes. Secondary rains return from September through November, usually falling as sharp afternoon storms.
Best Months by Trip Type
- Taï National Park: December to February is best. Drier trails improve wildlife tracking, and dirt access tracks are passable by 4WD.
- Coast and city visits: December through April provides the clearest skies and lowest precipitation.
- Months to avoid: May and June, when downpours disrupt overland transit and halt excursions.
Commercial Seasons and Logistics
San-Pédro is the global export capital for cocoa. The main export rush runs from October through March, filling coastal routes with cargo trucks and tightening lodging and 4WD rental availability around the port and San Pédro Airport (SPY).
What to Pack
Pack breathable, lightweight clothing and sun protection. For Taï National Park excursions, bring high-traction hiking boots, insect repellent, waterproof sacks for electronics, and sufficient cash in CFA francs for local transport and shared taxis.
