Basílica del Salvador

Located in the Barrio Brasil district of Santiago, this Neo-Gothic basilica was designed by German architect Teodoro Burchard. The building reached its current architectural form following a reconstruction in 1932. Visitors go here to view the Neo-Gothic architecture and the religious art within the sanctuary.

Getting There

The basilica is situated within the city limits of Santiago. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short taxi or ride-share trip, or by using the local public transport network. The journey typically takes between 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 45 to 90 minutes to walk through the interior and observe the architectural details of the structure.

When to Visit

Visiting during weekday mornings generally avoids the larger crowds associated with weekend services. Like many religious sites, it can become crowded during major liturgical holidays or scheduled masses.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location, the basilica can be combined with other cultural sites in the vicinity:

  • Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art (0.9km)
  • Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral (1km)
  • Chilean National History Museum (1.1km)
  • Santo Domingo Church (1.2km)
