Overview

The Immigration Museum of the State of São Paulo is located in the Mooca district on the east side of the city. Housed in a former immigrant lodging facility that opened in 1887, the site documents the arrival and integration of diverse immigrant communities in Brazil. Travelers visit to explore original passenger records, historical photographs, personal artifacts, and the preserved architectural spaces where newly arrived families were once housed.

Getting There

From central São Paulo, travel takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Visitors can take the metro to Bresser-Mooca station on Line 3-Red, followed by a short walk, or take a taxi or rideshare directly from the city center.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend 1.5 to 2 hours exploring the permanent galleries, archive resources, and garden grounds.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings offer the quietest atmosphere for viewing exhibits. Weekends tend to get crowded, especially when cultural events and food fairs are held in the courtyard. If visiting on a weekend, arrive early to avoid larger crowds.
