Overview

Fort Sekondi is a coastal fortification constructed by the British in 1682. Positioned along the coast alongside historical Dutch fortifications, it reflects the 17th-century European trading era in Ghana. Travelers visit to walk along the historic walls and examine the surviving colonial architecture.

Getting There

Located in Sekondi, the site is accessible from the Takoradi city centre by local taxi or minibus in roughly 15 to 20 minutes. For those arriving at Takoradi Airport (TKD), the drive takes approximately 25 minutes.

Visiting Duration

Allow 45 minutes to 1 hour to tour the ramparts and explore the grounds.

When to Visit

Visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the coastal heat. The site does not typically draw large crowds, making for a straightforward, unhurried visit. The dry season between November and March offers the most reliable weather for walking the outdoor structures.
