Xintiandi

Xintiandi is a pedestrian-only district in Shanghai that blends traditional Shikumen architecture with modern commercial use. It consists of a network of stone-gate houses converted into restaurants, cafes, and retail shops. Travelers visit this area to walk through the preserved residential lanes and access a concentrated variety of dining and shopping options.

Getting There

The area is centrally located and accessible via the Shanghai Metro. Depending on your starting point in the city center, a trip by metro or taxi typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. The district is well-connected to the main transit hubs of the city.

Time Allocation

Allow 2 to 4 hours to explore the streets, browse the shops, and have a meal. The compact layout makes it easy to navigate on foot without needing extensive travel time between points of interest.

When to Visit

The area is active throughout the day and evening. It becomes crowded during weekends and public holidays, particularly in the dining sections. Visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn provides more comfortable walking weather than the humid summer or cold winter.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, this district can be combined with other nearby sites:

  • Site of the First Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (0.1km)
  • K11 (0.4km)
  • Shanghai Museum (0.9km)
  • People's Square (0.9km)
