Overview

State Opera Stara Zagora is an opera and ballet theater founded in 1925, making it the oldest opera house in Bulgaria outside Sofia. Performances take place in the country's first theater building constructed specifically for opera. Travellers visit to attend live opera, ballet, and orchestral stagings.

Getting There

The theater is situated in the city centre, roughly a 5- to 10-minute walk from the main pedestrian areas. For air travel, the city is served via Plovdiv Airport (PDV), with ground transport connecting to Stara Zagora.

Time to Spend

Allow 2 to 3 hours if attending a full performance, including entry and intermission. A brief stop of 15 to 20 minutes is sufficient if only viewing the exterior.

When to Go

Stage events are held primarily in the evening, with the main performance season running from autumn through spring. Expect crowded foyers and seating areas before curtain time and during intermissions.
