Swakopmund Lighthouse

Built in 1902 during the German colonial era, this granite lighthouse is a coastal landmark in Swakopmund. Visitors go here to view the historic architecture and the red light system that has historically guided ships into the harbor.

Getting There

The lighthouse is located within the town's central area. From the city center, it is accessible via a short walk or a brief drive, typically taking less than 10 minutes depending on your starting point.

Duration of Visit

Most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes at the site to observe the structure and the surrounding coastal views.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year. Visiting during the morning or late afternoon provides softer light for viewing the granite exterior. Like many central landmarks, it can become busier during peak tourist seasons.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the lighthouse can be combined with several other points of interest within walking distance:

  • Museum Swakopmund: 0.1km
  • Our Lady of the Rosary, Swakopmund: 0.3km
  • National Marine Aquarium of Namibia: 1km

For those with more time, the Swakop River is located 9.6km away.
