Chinese Garden of Friendship

Overview

The Chinese Garden of Friendship is a walled garden at Darling Harbour, adjacent to Chinatown. Modeled on private gardens of the Ming dynasty, it features pavilions, weeping willows, koi ponds, pathways, and stone bridges. Travellers visit to see traditional Chinese landscape design, walk the paved paths, and view the water features and plantings within central Sydney.

Getting There

From Sydney's city centre, the site is reachable on foot in 10 to 15 minutes by walking south toward Darling Harbour. Light rail lines stop nearby at Exhibition Centre, and Town Hall train station is roughly a 10-minute walk away.

Time to Allow

Allow 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to walk the full circuit of paths, explore the courtyards, and view the ponds.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings have the lowest foot traffic. Midday and weekends draw more visitors, which can cause the narrow bridges and pavilions to become crowded. Dry weather is preferable since the paths and courtyards are outdoors.

Nearby Attractions

The site can be combined with nearby central destinations:

  • World Tower (0.3km)
  • Museum of Applied Arts and Science (0.4km)
  • St Andrew's Cathedral (0.4km)
  • Citigroup Centre (0.6km)
