Ali Amjad's Clock

Located on the northern bank of the Surma River, this structure is the oldest clock tower in Bangladesh. Travelers visit the site to see a historical landmark that, along with the adjacent Keane Bridge, serves as a visual symbol of Sylhet and frequently appears in regional cinema.

Getting There

The tower is situated within the central urban area of Sylhet. From the city centre, it is accessible via short rickshaw or auto-rickshaw rides, typically taking 10 to 20 minutes depending on local traffic conditions.

Visit Duration

Because the attraction is a landmark viewed primarily from the exterior and the surrounding riverbank, visitors generally spend 30 to 60 minutes at the site.

Timing Your Visit

The area can become crowded during weekends and public holidays. Visiting during the cooler months of the year is generally more comfortable for walking. Early morning or late afternoon provides a different light for viewing the tower and the river.

Nearby Attractions

The site is centrally located, making it easy to combine with other local points of interest:

  • Museum of Rajas' (0.8km)
  • Khadimnagar National Park (1.1km)
  • Osmany Museum (1.1km)
  • Madani Chattar (1.4km)
