Fort Provintia

Fort Provintia, known today as Chikan Tower, is a historic site in Tainan's Zhongxi District. Originally established as a Dutch fort in 1653, the site later served as a headquarters for Koxinga. Visitors go here to see the remaining architectural elements of the fort and the pavilion that gives the site its current name, providing a physical record of the colonial and political transitions in Taiwanese history.

Getting There

The site is located within the central urban area of Tainan. From the city center, it is accessible via local bus or taxi. Depending on your starting point within the district, the trip typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the grounds and view the historical markers and structures.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors, so early morning or late afternoon is preferable to avoid the midday heat. It can get crowded during national holidays and weekends. The dry season is generally more comfortable for walking tours.
