Overview

The Elgin Theatre forms the lower tier of the world's only surviving double-decker Edwardian theatre, stacked beneath the Winter Garden Theatre. Visitors come to attend theatrical performances, concerts, and film screenings, or to inspect its preserved early-20th-century architecture and decorative plaster interior.

Getting There

Situated on Yonge Street, the venue is in downtown Toronto. From central downtown areas, it is a walk of under 5 to 10 minutes. The closest subway stops are Queen Station and Dundas Station, both a short walk away.

Time to Spend

Allow 2.5 to 3 hours for a performance to account for seating, the show, and intermission. A standard architectural tour takes about 1.5 hours.

When to Go

Visits coincide with scheduled showtimes, predominantly in the evenings and on weekend afternoons. Foyers and entrances become crowded right before the curtain rises and during intermissions, so arriving early helps avoid bottlenecks.
