Stiftsgården

Located on Munkegata in central Trondheim, this wooden royal residence has served as a home for the Norwegian royal family and their guests since 1800. Spanning 4,000 square meters with 140 rooms, it is one of the largest wooden buildings in Northern Europe. Visitors go here to see the architecture and the interior of a functioning royal estate.

The residence is situated within the city centre. It is accessible by foot from most central hotels and the main shopping districts. Depending on your starting point in the core, the walk typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

The site is accessible throughout the year. To avoid the largest crowds, visit during weekday mornings. The surrounding gardens change appearance significantly between the summer and winter seasons.
