Linnaean Garden

The Linnaean Garden is the oldest botanical garden of Uppsala University. It has been restored to reflect the 18th-century design established by the botanist Carl Linnaeus. Visitors go here to see a historical representation of early botanical classification and to walk through a garden designed according to period-specific scientific layouts.

Getting There

The garden is located within walking distance of Uppsala city centre. Depending on your starting point downtown, it typically takes about 5 to 10 minutes to reach the entrance on foot.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the garden grounds and observe the plant arrangements and historical layout.

When to Visit

The garden is best visited during the spring and summer months when the botanical collections are in bloom. Morning visits are generally quieter. Like many central attractions in Uppsala, it can become crowded during the peak summer tourist season.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the garden can be combined with several other sites:

  • The Linnaeus Museum (0km): Located immediately adjacent to the garden.
  • Järnbron (0.2km): A short walk to this historic bridge.
  • Fjärdingen (0.4km): A nearby central square.
  • Uppsala Cathedral (0.5km): A brief walk to the city's landmark cathedral.
