Schönbrunn Zoo
Overview
Opened in 1752 within the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace, this is the world's oldest operating zoo. Travellers visit to see a wide range of animal species set within historic imperial architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage garden setting.
Getting There
From central Vienna, take the underground line U4 to Hietzing or Schönbrunn station. The journey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, followed by a short walk through the palace park to the entrance gates.

Plan to spend 3 to 4 hours to see the primary animal houses and walking routes. Covering all outdoor paths and indoor exhibits thoroughly can take up to half a day.
