Lotrščak Tower
Overview
Lotrščak Tower is a 13th-century fortified structure in Zagreb's Upper Town, originally built to guard the southern gate of Gradec. Today, it serves as a historic viewpoint where visitors can look out over the streets and rooftops of the Lower Town.
Getting There
From Ban Jelačić Square in the city centre, the site is accessible on foot in roughly 5 to 10 minutes via uphill pedestrian paths or stairs. Alternatively, the public funicular on Tomićeva Street brings passengers directly to the base in about one minute.
Suggested Duration
Plan to spend around 20 to 30 minutes inside. This allows adequate time to climb the internal steps, read the historical panels, and take in the view from the top platform.
When to Go
Midday is the most crowded period because people gather around the base to hear the traditional noon cannon shot. To avoid congestion on the narrow stairs and observation deck, visit during the morning or late afternoon on a clear day.
