Baiyoke Tower 2
Baiyoke Tower II
What it is
Baiyoke Tower II is an 88-story hotel skyscraper in Ratchathewi, one of the tallest hotels in Southeast Asia. The main draw is its rooftop observation deck, which gives a 360-degree view over central Bangkok's rooftops, canals, and sprawl toward the horizon. It's less about the building itself and more about the vantage point it offers over a city with few other tall, publicly accessible viewpoints in this area.
Getting there
It sits close to Pratunam Market, one of Bangkok's dense wholesale and retail clothing districts. From central Bangkok (Siam or Sukhumvit), a taxi or ride-hail typically takes 15-30 minutes depending on traffic, which can be heavy around Pratunam. There's no direct BTS or MRT station at the tower; the closest rail option is Chit Lom or Ratchathewi BTS stations, followed by a walk or short taxi ride through the market streets.
Time to allow
Plan for around 1-1.5 hours, including time going up and taking in the view. If you also plan to browse Pratunam Market on the way in or out, add extra time, since the area is crowded and slow to move through on foot.
When to go
Late afternoon into sunset is a popular window, since you get both daylight and city-light views without a long wait. Clear days give the best visibility, as haze can obscure the skyline. The surrounding Pratunam area gets busy with shoppers and market traffic throughout the day, so early morning tends to be calmer if you want to avoid crowds getting to the building itself.
Combine it with
- Pratunam Market (0.4km) — right next door, worth a walk through before or after.
- Suan Pakkad Palace (0.5km) — a quieter, historic contrast to the market and tower.
- Erawan Shrine (1.1km) — a short ride away, easy to fold into the same outing.
- Victory Monument (1.2km) — useful as a transport hub if you're heading elsewhere by BTS afterward.
