Democracy Monument
Das Demokratiedenkmal ist ein Denkmal im Zentrum von Bangkok, der Hauptstadt von Thailand. Es ist eines der Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Es liegt in der Mitte eines Kreisverkehrs der Thanon Ratchadamnoen Klang (Ratchadamnoen-Klang-Boulevard) an der Kreuzung mit der Thanon Dinso, im Stadtbezirk Phra Nakhon, etwa auf halbem Wege zwischen dem Sanam Luang und dem Wat Saket.

Democracy Monument is a large public monument set in the middle of a traffic circle on Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Bangkok's grand ceremonial boulevard. It's a landmark of the city's modern political history rather than a temple or museum, so most visitors come to see the structure itself, take in the surrounding architecture, and use it as an orientation point in the old city rather than to spend a long visit inside anything. The monument and roundabout are worth a stop if you're walking this stretch of Ratchadamnoen between the Grand Palace area and the Golden Mount.
Getting there
From central Bangkok, the monument is most easily reached by taxi or tuk-tuk, since it sits outside the BTS and MRT network. Traffic on Ratchadamnoen Avenue can slow things down, so allow around 20-30 minutes from Sukhumvit or Silom by road. Public buses also run along Ratchadamnoen Avenue and stop near the circle.
Time to allow
Since it's a monument you view from the traffic island or surrounding pavements rather than an enclosed site, 15-30 minutes is usually enough.
When to go
Early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable, avoiding the midday heat and giving better light for photos. This is a busy road junction, so expect steady traffic noise and vehicles circling the monument throughout the day.

- Sao Chingcha (0.5km) and Devasathan (0.5km) - the Giant Swing and its adjacent Brahmin shrine, an easy pairing within walking distance.
- Khaosan Road (0.5km) - Bangkok's well-known backpacker street, a short walk away for food and street life.
- Chakraphong Mosque (0.8km) - a bit further on foot, worth including if you're already exploring this part of the old city.
