라마 9세 슈퍼 타워
Rama IX Super Tower
What it is
Rama IX Super Tower, also known as the Grand Rama 9 Tower, was a skyscraper project planned for the Rama IX area of Bangkok. It was designed to reach 615 metres, which would have made it the tallest building in Thailand, but the project was cancelled and never built. There is no completed tower to visit at this site, and travellers should not plan a trip around seeing it.
Getting there
Since the tower does not exist as a physical landmark, there is no viewing platform or building to travel to. The area around the proposed site, near Rama IX Road, is reachable from central Bangkok by taxi or the MRT Blue Line, generally within 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
Time to allow
Because there is nothing built to tour, this is not a stop worth allocating dedicated time to. Travellers researching Bangkok's skyline should look instead at completed landmarks such as Baiyoke Tower II or Magnolias Waterfront Residences, the current tallest building in Thailand.
When to go
Not applicable, given there is no structure open to the public.
What to combine it with
If exploring this part of Bangkok, more practical stops nearby include Baiyoke Tower II (2.9km), which does have an observation deck, Pratunam Market (3km) for shopping, Benjakitti Park (3.3km) for a green space break, and Erawan Shrine (3.3km) for a well-known religious site. These make for a more realistic itinerary than seeking out the cancelled Rama IX project.
