Silut Lagoon

Silut Lagoon

Silot Lagoon is a shallow body of water located in the municipality of Liloan, Cebu, the Philippines. It is a lagoon surrounded by mangroves, connected to the Camotes Sea by a narrow outlet called the Liloan River. The lagoon has depths of between 1 and 2 feet and is situated just south of Liloan's poblacion. It is bounded to the east by the village of Catarman, to the west by Yati, and to the south by Tayud. It has sandbars near its outlet at the Liloan River.

Silot Lagoon

Silot Lagoon is a shallow, mangrove-fringed body of water in the municipality of Liloan, just north of Cebu City. It connects to the Camotes Sea through a narrow channel called the Liloan River, and sandbars form near this outlet. With water only about 1 to 2 feet deep across most of the lagoon, it's a quiet spot for looking at mangrove forest and calm coastal scenery rather than a swimming beach. Villages border it on three sides — Catarman to the east, Yati to the west, and Tayud to the south — giving it the feel of a working coastal landscape rather than a set-up tourist site.

Getting there

From Cebu City centre, head north along the coastal highway toward Liloan; the drive takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes by car or taxi depending on traffic. The lagoon sits just south of Liloan's town centre (poblacion), so once you reach the town, local roads lead to the water's edge.

Time and timing

An hour or two is enough to walk along the lagoon, view the mangroves, and see the sandbars near the river outlet. Because the water is shallow and tide-dependent, sandbar visibility and the general look of the lagoon change through the day — an early morning or late afternoon visit tends to be more comfortable, avoiding the strongest midday heat. It's a low-key local site rather than a major draw, so crowding is not typically a concern.

Combine with

  • Bagacay Point Lighthouse (2.8km) — the closest stop, easy to pair on the same trip.
  • Magellan Bay (7.6km) and Marcelo Fernan Bridge (9km) — both reasonable additions if you're spending a half-day in the area.
  • Lapulapu Monument (10km) — a bit further, worth adding if you're continuing toward Mactan.
