Linh Ung Pagoda

Linh Ung Pagoda

What it is

Linh Ung Pagoda sits on the Son Tra Peninsula, on a headland overlooking the South China Sea. It's an active Buddhist temple, best known for the large white statue of the Lady Buddha (Quan Am) that stands on the grounds facing the water. Travellers come mainly for the coastal views from the terrace and the statue itself, along with the temple halls, gardens, and pond typical of a working pagoda rather than a museum piece.

Getting there

From central Da Nang, it's roughly a 20-30 minute drive or taxi/scooter ride, following the coast road up onto Son Tra Peninsula. There's no direct public bus route, so most visitors go by taxi, ride-hailing app, rented scooter, or as part of a Son Tra tour.

Time to allow

An hour or so covers the main statue, temple buildings, and viewpoints. Allow more time if you plan to continue up the peninsula afterward, since the pagoda is often visited as one stop on a longer Son Tra loop.

When to go

Mornings tend to be quieter and cooler for the walk around the grounds. As an active place of worship with a well-known viewpoint, it can get busy with both visitors and worshippers, particularly around midday and on weekends. Note that this is a religious site, so modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is expected.

Combining with nearby sights

The pagoda sits on the same peninsula as Son Tra Mountain (2.5 km), making it easy to combine with a broader Son Tra excursion. My Khe Beach (4.6 km) is a reasonable stop on the way back toward the city, while Thuan Phuoc Bridge (5.9 km) and the Han River (6.1 km) fit naturally into a return route along the coast into central Da Nang.
