국제 거리

Kokusai-dōri

Kokusai-dōri

Kokusai-dōri is a straight commercial street in central Naha, running roughly 1.6km between the Kenchō Kitaguchi intersection and the Asato three-way junction. It's the main shopping and dining strip in Okinawa Prefecture, lined with souvenir shops, department stores, restaurants, and stalls selling local Okinawan goods. It works well as a place to browse for gifts, try Okinawan food, and get a feel for the city rather than as a single sight to see.

Getting there

The street runs through the heart of Naha and is easily reached on foot or by monorail (Yui Rail) from stops along its length, such as Kenchō-mae or Makishi. From most points in central Naha it's a walk of well under 20 minutes.

How much time to allow

Allow at least an hour or two to walk the length of the street and browse shops. If you plan to eat, stop at the covered Makishi Public Market, or duck into side streets, a half-day gives you room to explore without rushing.

When to go

The street is busiest in the late afternoon and evening, especially on weekends, when shops and restaurants fill up with both visitors and locals. Mornings are quieter and more comfortable for walking, particularly in summer when midday heat and humidity can be intense.

Combine with

  • Naha City Museum of History (0.8km) for context on the area's past
  • Tomari (0.8km), a nearby port area
  • Gokoku-ji Temple (0.9km) for a quieter contrast to the street's bustle
  • Fukushūen (1.2km), a Chinese-style garden, if you have more time
