후쿠슈엔
Fukushūen
후쿠슈엔(福州園 )은 일본 오키나와현 나하시 구메에 있는 중국식 정원이다. 나하시의 시제 70주년 및 푸저우시와의 우호도시 체결 10주년의 기념사업으로 건설되어 1992년 9월에 개원하였다.
A classical Chinese garden in Kume
Fukushūen is a walled Chinese-style garden built in the Kume district of Naha, laid out with the rockwork, pavilions, ponds and covered walkways typical of southern Chinese garden design rather than the Japanese gardens found elsewhere on Okinawa. Kume was historically home to Chinese settlers who influenced Ryukyuan trade and administration, and the garden was created to reflect that connection. It's worth visiting for the architecture and landscaping itself — artificial hills, stone bridges, and pavilions arranged around water — rather than for any single standout feature.
Getting there
The garden sits in central Naha, close to Naminoue and the Kume neighborhood, so it's easily reached on foot or by a short taxi ride from downtown Naha. It is not directly on the Yui Rail monorail line, so most visitors walk in from a nearby station or combine it with other sights in the area.
How long to spend
The garden is compact enough to walk through in under an hour, including time to climb the viewing points and take photos from the pavilions.
When to go
Because much of the garden is outdoors with limited shade in places, midday in summer can be uncomfortably hot and humid. Early morning or late afternoon light also suits the stonework and reflections in the ponds better than harsh midday sun.
