구 요도강
Kyū-Yodo River
구 요도강(旧淀川 규요도가와[*]→옛 요도강)은 요도강의 지류다. 오사카시 북구의 케마수문에서 본류에서 갈라져서 바다로 흘러들어간다. 1907년에 현재의 요도강이 직강화되기 전에는 이쪽이 사실 요도강의 원래 본류였다. 현재의 구 요도강은 중앙 오사카의 주요 수로이자 네야강의 주요 배수로이다.
What it is
The Kyū-Yodo River is the former main channel of the Yodo River, left behind when a straighter, more flood-resistant course was cut in 1907. Today it functions as a canal-like waterway through central Osaka, collecting drainage from the Neyagawa river. It's not a nature reserve or scenic showpiece so much as a piece of Osaka's engineering history you pass along the water, with a low-key riverside path good for a walk between other stops in the area.
Getting there
It sits in the Osaka Bay waterfront area near Universal Studios Japan, a short taxi or train ride from central Osaka (roughly 20-30 minutes from the city centre, depending on your starting point and connections).
How long to spend
There isn't a defined "site" to visit — it's a stretch of river you walk or cycle along. Twenty to thirty minutes is enough to take in the waterway and its surroundings.
When to go
Late afternoon or early evening works well for a walk along the water. The area draws heavy crowds because of Universal Studios Japan nearby, so expect congestion on weekends and holidays, especially close to the park.
Combine it with
- Mount Tenpō (0.2km) — right next to the river, an easy pairing.
- Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (0.5km) — a short walk away, worth building a half-day around.
- Universal Studios Japan (0.7km) — also nearby, though it needs its own full day if you're visiting the park itself.
- Yodo River (2.9km) — its successor channel, further off but a natural comparison if you're interested in the area's river history.
