Tegenungan Waterfall is a waterfall in Bali, Indonesia. It is located at the village of Tegenungan Kemenuh, also known as Kemenuh Village on the Petanu River in the Gianyar Regency, north from the capital Denpasar and close to the Balinese artist village of Ubud.
What it is
Tegenungan is a wide, single-drop waterfall on the Petanu River in Kemenuh village, in the Gianyar Regency north of Denpasar and near Ubud. The falls are visible from a viewing platform near the parking area, and a stepped path leads down into the river valley for a closer look and a spot to swim or wade near the base. It's a straightforward nature stop rather than a hike, making it accessible for most travellers with reasonable mobility.
Getting there
The waterfall sits a short drive southeast of Ubud, generally under 30 minutes by car or scooter depending on traffic. From Denpasar or the airport area it's closer to an hour. There's no direct public transport, so most visitors arrive by private car, scooter, or organized tour.
Time to allow
Most visitors spend around 45 minutes to an hour and a half here, enough time to walk down to the falls, take photos, and swim if the water and conditions allow.
Best time to visit
Mornings tend to be quieter before tour groups arrive later in the day. The site can get busy and the steps down can feel crowded at peak times. During and after heavy rain the river can rise quickly, so conditions and safety near the water vary with the season.
