Taman Safari Bali (Bali Safari)
Bali Safari & Marine Park, or Taman Safari Bali is a branch of Taman Safari located in Gianyar, Bali. It is managed by the Taman Safari Group which also manages Taman Safari Indonesia 1 in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java and Taman Safari Indonesia 2 in Prigen, East Java. All three Safari Parks including Taman Safari Bali are a conservation organization and a member of the Association of Indonesian Zoos. .
What it is
Bali Safari & Marine Park is a drive-through and walk-through zoo in Gianyar that groups animals by continent (Asia, Africa, Indonesia) rather than keeping them in isolated cages. Visitors move through the park by tram or on marked walking paths, getting close to elephants, lions, tigers, rhinos, and other species in open enclosures. It works well for families with kids and for anyone who wants a half-day wildlife stop that isn't a temple or beach.
Getting there
The park sits in Gianyar regency, away from the main tourist strips of Seminyak, Kuta, or Ubud. From central Ubud it's roughly a 30-45 minute drive; from the southern beach areas around Kuta or Seminyak, expect closer to 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic. Most visitors arrive by private car, hired driver, or hotel/tour shuttle, since there's no practical public transit route.
How much time to allow
Plan for at least half a day, roughly 3-4 hours, to cover the safari tram/walk route plus any animal shows or feeding sessions you want to catch. Add extra time if you also want to see the marine or water-park sections, as the grounds are spread out and walking between zones takes a while.
When to go
Go early in the day if possible: animals tend to be more active before the midday heat, and the park fills up with tour groups and school trips by late morning. As with most outdoor Bali attractions, the dry season (roughly April to October) means less chance of rain disrupting outdoor viewing, though tropical showers can happen year-round.
Combining with nearby sights
Tukad Pakerisan is only about 1.9km away, making it an easy add-on before or after the safari. Tegenungan Waterfall (5.9km) is also close enough to pair in the same day. If you have more time, the Purbakala Archaeological Museum (8.8km) and Goa Gajah (9km) can round out a day exploring Gianyar's cultural and natural sites alongside the park.
