via Monte Napoleone

via Monte Napoleone

Via Monte Napoleone, also spelled Via Montenapoleone, is an upscale shopping street in Milan, Italy, and the most expensive street in the world (2024). It is famous for its ready-to-wear fashion and jewelry shops, and for being the most important street of the Milan fashion district known as the Quadrilatero della moda, where many well-known fashion designers have high-end boutiques. The most exclusive Italian shoemakers maintain boutiques on this street.

Via Monte Napoleone

Via Monte Napoleone is Milan's best-known shopping street, lined with flagship boutiques from major ready-to-wear and jewelry houses, plus a number of long-established Italian shoemakers. Most visitors come simply to walk it and window-shop, since the street itself, along with the surrounding blocks known as the Quadrilatero della moda, is the point of interest as much as any single store.

Getting there

The street sits in central Milan, a short walk from the Duomo through Piazza San Babila. It is also reachable via the San Babila stop on Metro Line 1 (red line), from which it's a couple of minutes on foot. From either Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN) airport, plan on connecting into the city centre first before making this short final leg.

How long to allow

An hour is enough to walk the length of the street and get a sense of it. If you plan to browse into shops or extend into the wider Quadrilatero della moda, allow two to three hours.

When to go

The street is busiest in the afternoon and on weekends, and especially crowded during Milan Fashion Week. A morning visit on a weekday is quieter.

Nearby

  • San Carlo al Corso (0.2km) — a short walk away
  • Museo Poldi Pezzoli (0.3km) — an art museum in a former private residence
  • Gallerie d'Italia – Milano (0.4km) — an art museum housed in historic palazzi
  • Museo Teatrale alla Scala (0.5km) — dedicated to the history of La Scala opera house

These are all close enough to combine into a single half-day walking route through the city centre.
