Pattaya floating market

Pattaya floating market

The Pattaya floating market, also called the Four Regions floating market after Thailand's four regions, is a floating market on the outskirks of Pattaya along Sukhumvit road in Chonburi province, Thailand. Opened in 2008 by Warida Sae-eng, the market covers 109,270m² and costed ฿‎350 million. It is the only floating market in Pattaya and is the largest floating market on a man made body of water in the world. The market is constructed out of teak with thatched roofs in traditional Thai architecture.

Pattaya Floating Market

This is a market built over artificial canals, organized into zones representing Thailand's four regions, with vendors selling food, souvenirs, and handicrafts from stalls and boats. The teak construction and thatched roofs are meant to evoke traditional Thai village architecture, and it's more of a themed cultural attraction than a working market where locals shop. Travelers go for boat rides through the canals, regional food stalls, and photo opportunities with the traditional buildings.

Getting there

It sits on Sukhumvit Road on the outskirts of Pattaya, away from the beach areas. A taxi or ride-hailing app from central Pattaya typically takes 15-25 minutes depending on traffic and starting point. Songthaews (shared pickup trucks) also run along Sukhumvit Road and can drop you nearby.

Time to allow

Two to three hours is usually enough to walk the different zones, browse stalls, eat, and take a boat ride if you want one.

When to go

Mornings tend to be cooler and less crowded than afternoons. Tour buses often bring large groups through midday, so if you prefer a quieter visit, aim for earlier or later in the day. Being mostly outdoor walkways over water, it can feel hot and humid in the middle of the day during Thailand's warmer months.

Combine it with

  • Ocean 1 Tower (5km) — the closest of the nearby options, easy to pair on the same trip.
  • Pattaya Beach (7.6km) — good for an afternoon by the water after the market.
  • Ao Phatthaya (8.2km) — the wider Pattaya bay area, close to the beach.
  • Viharn Sien (10.4km) — a museum of Chinese art and artifacts, a bit further out but workable as part of a half-day loop.
