Raohe Street Night Market
Raohe Street Night Market is one of Taipei's older night markets, running as a single long, covered street lined with food stalls, small shops, and a few game stands, rather than a sprawling grid like some of the city's other markets. It's a place to eat your way down the street — skewers, stinky tofu, soups, and various snack stalls — rather than a shopping destination in the retail sense, though there are clothing and accessory vendors mixed in. A traveller would go here mainly for the food and the atmosphere of a local, well-established night market.
Getting there
From central Taipei, the market is reachable by MRT plus a short walk, or by taxi, which typically takes around 20-30 minutes depending on where in the city centre you start and traffic conditions.
How long to stay
Most visitors spend one to two hours here, enough time to walk the length of the street, stop at a few food stalls, and browse the shops without rushing.
When to go
Evenings are when the market is active, and it draws large crowds on weekends in particular. Arriving earlier in the evening on a weekday makes it easier to move through the street and get to popular stalls without long waits.
Combine it with
- Ciyou Temple (0.5km) — close enough to visit before or after the market, and marks one end of the market street.
- Cathay Landmark (1.2km) and Farglory Financial Center (1.5km) — nearby if you want a look at the city's modern skyline in the same outing.
- The Sky Taipei (1.7km) — a bit further out but still walkable or a short ride away for those extending the evening.
