台北植物園
Taipei Botanical Garden
Taipei Botanical Garden
This is a public garden covering roughly 8 hectares in Zhongzheng District, established in 1896 and home to over 2,000 plant species arranged in themed sections, including a notable lotus pond area. It's a place to walk among labeled plantings and ponds rather than see wildlife exhibits, appealing to travellers who want a quiet green break from the city or an interest in botany and landscaped gardens.
Getting there
The garden sits centrally in Taipei, within walking distance of several major sights, so it's easily reached on foot from nearby MRT stations or by a short taxi ride from most points in the city centre. Coming from Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), plan for roughly an hour into the city centre before any onward trip to the garden.
How much time to allow
An hour or two is enough to walk the main paths and ponds at a relaxed pace; add extra time if you plan to sit and take photographs around the lotus pond.
When to go
Mornings tend to be quieter and cooler for walking. The lotus pond is best seen when the flowers are in bloom during the warmer months, though exact timing varies year to year. Weekends can draw more local visitors, especially families.
Combine it with
- The National Museum of History is essentially adjacent (0.1km), making it an easy add-on before or after the garden.
- The National Theater and Concert Hall is under a kilometre away (0.9km), a reasonable walk if you want to see the surrounding plaza and architecture.
- The Taipei Guest House (1.1km) and Bangka Lungshan Temple (1.2km) are both within walking distance and can round out a half-day itinerary in this part of the city.
