汐留
Shiodome
What it is
Shiodome is a cluster of skyscrapers built on the site of a former railway freight terminal, now housing corporate headquarters, hotels, and office-tower dining floors. It's not a sightseeing destination in the traditional sense — there's no single landmark to see — but it's worth passing through for its scale and as a base for restaurants with views, and it works well as a link between Ginza and the waterfront.
Getting there
Shiodome Station is served by the Toei Oedo Line and the Yurikamome, and it's an easy walk from JR Shimbashi Station. From central Tokyo (e.g. Tokyo Station or Ginza), expect around 10-15 minutes by train.
Time to allow
An hour or so is enough to walk through the plazas and elevated walkways, longer if you stop for a meal in one of the tower restaurants.
When to go
Weekday lunchtimes and early evenings are busiest with office workers. Weekends are quieter, since much of the area caters to business traffic rather than tourism.
Combine with
- Hamarikyu Gardens (0.4km) — a short walk, good for contrast between the towers and a traditional garden.
- Ginza (1.1km) — walkable, for shopping and dining afterward.
- Tokyo Tower (1.4km) — a bit further but doable on foot or by a quick train ride.
