Jamestown Lighthouse

The Jamestown Lighthouse is a 28-meter tall navigational structure located in the Jamestown district of Accra. Originally established in 1871 and rebuilt in the 1930s, it continues to serve as a functional guide for ships entering and exiting the harbor. Travelers visit the site to view the maritime architecture and observe the activity of the local fishing community in one of the city's oldest neighborhoods.

Getting There

The lighthouse is located on the coast, west of the central business district. From the city center, it is most accessible via a short taxi or ride-share trip. Depending on traffic conditions in Accra, the journey typically takes between 10 and 20 minutes.

Most visitors spend approximately 30 to 60 minutes at the site, which is sufficient to view the structure and the surrounding shoreline.

When to Visit

Visiting during the early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the peak midday heat. The area can become crowded during local festivals or weekends. Visitors should be aware that the surrounding district is a densely populated residential and fishing area.
