Overview

The Tower of Flies is a medieval fortress ruin located on a small rocky island guarding Acre's historic harbor. Formerly used as a fortified watchtower and lighthouse, it reflects the city's past as a Mediterranean trade port. Travelers visit to view the remaining stonework and observe the defensive layout of the harbor.

Getting There

The site sits just offshore from Old Acre's marina, reachable on foot in 5 to 10 minutes from the city center. Because it stands in the water, it is viewed from the waterfront promenade or approached via local boats operating from the docks.

Suggested Duration

Plan for 20 to 30 minutes to view the structure from the shoreline, or 45 to 60 minutes if taking a harbor boat trip.

When to Visit

Late afternoon provides good light across the harbor and cooler sea breezes. The waterfront area is busier on weekends and holidays, whereas weekday mornings are quieter. Rough winter seas can limit boat access.
