Akureyri Botanical Garden
Located south of the town center within the Eyjafjörður fjord, this site is one of the northernmost botanical gardens in the world. Visitors go here to observe how exotic and high-latitude plant species grow in a climate situated only 85km south of the Arctic Circle.
Getting There
The garden is situated within walking distance of the Akureyri city center. Depending on your starting point, the walk typically takes between 10 and 15 minutes.
Duration of Visit
Most visitors spend between 1 and 2 hours exploring the grounds and viewing the various plant collections.
When to Visit
The best time to visit is during the summer months when the vegetation is in bloom and the daylight hours are longest. During winter, many plants are dormant. The site generally does not experience the extreme crowding found at major southern Icelandic landmarks, though it is quieter in the early morning.
