Pearl Roundabout

Overview

The Pearl Roundabout, historically known as Pearl Square, was a central plaza near the financial district. It gained international prominence as the focal site of Bahrain's 2011 pro-democracy protests. The landmark monument was demolished during the unrest, and the location was reconfigured into a major road junction. Travellers visit mainly to see the physical setting of modern Bahraini political history.

Getting There

The site sits adjacent to the central business district. Reaching it by car or taxi from the city centre takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes along the main highways.

Time to Allow

Plan for 10 to 20 minutes. Because the original structure was removed and the area functions as an active roadway, visits consist of brief observation from adjacent areas or a vehicle pass.

When to Visit

November through March offers milder temperatures for travel. Midday or early afternoon is best for clear viewing. Heavy traffic congestion occurs during weekday morning and late afternoon commute hours.

Nearby Attractions

Combine a stop here with several points of interest close by:

  • Abraj Al Lulu (0.3km): A high-rise residential complex right beside the junction.
  • Reef Island, Bahrain (1.1km): A waterfront development with promenades and dining.
  • Zinj (1.3km): A neighbouring district with local shops and cafes.
  • Sacred Heart Church (1.9km): A historic church in central Manama.
