Overview

Almaty Zoo is a national zoological park in Almaty, Kazakhstan. As one of the country's oldest and largest zoos, it houses regional and international wildlife. Visitors go to observe Central Asian and exotic species or enjoy an open-air walk across its spacious grounds.

Getting There

Located near Central Park on the eastern side of central Almaty, the site is accessible by taxi in roughly 15 to 25 minutes from the city center. Public buses also run nearby, stopping within a short walk of the entrance.

Time to Allow

Allocate 2 to 3 hours to view the animal enclosures and explore the grounds at a standard walking pace.

When to Go

Morning or late afternoon visits are best, as temperatures are more moderate and animals are generally more active. The grounds become crowded on weekends and public holidays, so choose a weekday morning for a quieter visit.
