Boralday Burial Mounds

Boralday is an archaeological complex consisting of 47 burial mounds dating back to the Saka era of the early Iron Age. Located on the outskirts of Almaty along the Bolshaya Almatinka River, the site preserves the remains of ancient nomadic settlements and burial practices. Travelers visit this location to see the physical traces of early steppe civilizations and the layout of these prehistoric mounds.

Getting There

The site is located on the periphery of Almaty. The most practical way to reach the mounds from the city centre is by taxi or rental car. Depending on traffic conditions, the drive typically takes between 30 and 50 minutes.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the complex and observe the distribution of the mounds across the landscape.

Timing Your Visit

The site is an open-air archaeological area, making it most accessible during the spring and autumn when temperatures are moderate. Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat. It does not typically experience heavy crowds.
