Located on a reef within the Waitematā Harbour, this is New Zealand's only wooden cottage-style lighthouse. It is the oldest wooden lighthouse in the country and is unique for being positioned where it is directly washed by waves. Visitors go here to see a rare example of maritime architecture and to observe the harbour from a remote point.
Getting There
Because the lighthouse is situated on a rock in the harbour, it is not accessible by car or foot. You must take a boat from the distance from the Auckland city centre. Depending on the departure point and the vessel used, the trip typically takes between 20 to 40 minutes each way.

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours for the visit. This includes the time spent exploring the immediate area of the reef and the structure itself, excluding the transit time to and from the mainland.
