Te Tātua a Riukiuta

Te Tātua a Riukiuta is a volcanic peak located in the Three Kings area of Auckland. Regarded as a sacred maunga by Māori, the site originally consisted of three peaks, though quarrying has left only one remaining, known as Big King Big. Visitors go here to walk the volcanic terrain and view the surrounding city landscape from the summit.

Getting There

The site is located west of the Auckland city centre. You can reach it via public bus or by car. The journey typically takes 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk up to the peak and explore the immediate area.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year. Early morning or late afternoon is recommended for those seeking clearer views of the city. It generally does not get as crowded as other volcanic peaks in the region.
