Overview

The Temple of Bacchus is an ancient Roman temple in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, located within the Baalbek archaeological complex. Dedicated to the god of wine, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved and largest Roman temples still standing. Visitors come to study its intact exterior colonnade, monumental entrance, and detailed stone carvings.

Getting There

The site is adjacent to central Baalbek, reachable on foot in 5 to 10 minutes from the town center. From Beirut and Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY), the drive takes about two hours via regional roads into the Bekaa Valley.

Time to Allow

Plan for 1 to 1.5 hours to view the outer colonnade, inner sanctuary, and architectural reliefs.

When to Go

Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) provide comfortable temperatures for walking outdoors. Summer afternoons can be hot, and winter brings cold weather. Tour groups often arrive around midday, so early morning visits offer fewer crowds.
