Istana Nurul Iman
Istana Nurul Iman
This palace serves as the official residence and administrative center for the Sultan of Brunei. Located along the river in Bandar Seri Begawan, it is one of the largest residential palaces in the world. Travelers visit to view the scale of the architecture and the surrounding grounds from the exterior.
Getting There
The palace is situated near the downtown area of Bandar Seri Begawan. It is accessible via taxi or ride-sharing services from the city center, typically taking about 5 to 10 minutes depending on traffic.
Duration of Visit
Since access to the interior is strictly limited and generally only open to the public during specific national holidays, most visitors spend 1 to 2 hours viewing the exterior and the perimeter of the estate.
When to Visit
Visiting during the morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site does not typically experience the same crowding as public museums, though it becomes very busy during the Hari Raya celebrations when the palace opens its doors to the public.
