Jelenská skala
Jelenská skala
Jelenská skala is the highest peak of the Starohorské vrchy range, located north of Banská Bystrica. Travelers visit this site for the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Unlike many tourist sites, there is no marked trail to the summit, meaning hikers must navigate the ascent independently.
Getting There
The peak is located outside the city center of Banská Bystrica. Access typically requires a drive or a hike toward the Starohorské vrchy range. Depending on the starting point and the chosen path, the journey from the city center takes several hours of hiking or a shorter drive to the base of the hills followed by a climb.
Time Requirement
Visitors should allow a half-day to a full day for the trip. Because there are no official markers to the top, the ascent and descent take longer than a standard trail walk.
When to Visit
The site is best visited during the spring, summer, and autumn. Winter conditions can make the unmarked terrain difficult and dangerous to navigate. Early morning visits are recommended to avoid midday heat and to ensure sufficient daylight for the return trip.
