Navigating Berat

Berat is a compact city where the geography dictates the mode of transport. The city is divided into the lower town and the historic citadel area, with the Osum river running between them.

Primary Modes of Transport

• Walking: This is the most effective way to see the city. The Mangalem and Gorica quarters, as well as the Berat Castle, are best explored on foot. Be prepared for steep inclines and cobblestone streets when ascending to the citadel.
• Taxis: Local taxis are available for trips between the bus terminal and the city center, or for visiting outskirts. They are useful for those with heavy luggage or limited mobility.
• Intercity Buses (Furgons): These minibuses are the primary way to reach Berat from other cities. They operate on flexible schedules and are the most cost-effective long-distance option.

Airport to City Transfers

Berat is accessed via Tirana International Airport (TIA). There is no direct train service.

• Private Transfer: The fastest and lowest-effort option. It provides door-to-door service but falls in the highest cost band.
• Bus/Furgon: Requires travel from the airport to Tirana city center first, then a transfer to the Berat-bound bus. This is the lowest cost band but requires the most effort and time.
