The White Mosque

The White Mosque, also known as the Sultan Bayezid II Mosque, is a ruined religious structure located within the walls of Berat Castle. Visitors go here to see the remaining architectural elements of the mosque and to explore its place within the broader UNESCO World Heritage site of Berat and Gjirokastra.

Getting There

The mosque is situated inside the castle citadel, which is located on a hill above the city centre. To reach it, you must walk from the town center up the slope to the castle entrance. The walk typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes depending on your pace.

Visit Duration

Because the site consists of ruins rather than a large interior complex, you should allow approximately 30 to 45 minutes to view the structure and the immediate surrounding area.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements, so visiting during the spring or autumn is advisable to avoid extreme heat. Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday sun. The area can become crowded during the peak summer tourist season.
