Onufri Iconographic Museum

Located within the Church of the Dormition of St. Mary in Berat's castle quarter, this museum houses a collection of Byzantine art and religious icons. It is named after Onufri, a 16th-century painter known for his specific style and use of color. Visitors go here to study intricate icon paintings and ecclesiastical art from the Byzantine tradition.

Getting There

The museum is situated inside the Berat Castle (Kala), which is elevated above the city center. From the center, you can walk up the slope to the castle gates. The ascent takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on your pace.

Visit Duration

Allow roughly 45 to 90 minutes to view the collection and the interior of the church where the museum is housed.

When to Visit

Visiting during the morning hours helps avoid the midday heat, especially during the summer months. The castle quarter can become crowded during peak tourist seasons and on weekends.
