Gullsteinen
Overview
Gullsteinen is a 354-meter peak in the Løvstakken mountain range, located south of Bergen. Marked hiking trails lead up to the summit from multiple directions, offering an easy climb with views across the city and surrounding terrain.
Getting There
Reaching the trailheads from Bergen city centre takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes by local bus or light rail, followed by a short walk to the starting points at the base of the hill.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend between 1.5 and 2.5 hours for the round-trip hike, depending on the chosen route and your walking pace.
When to Visit
Daylight hours between late spring and early autumn provide the best trail conditions. Wet weather can make the paths muddy and rocky sections slippery, while winter conditions bring snow and ice requiring sturdy traction. The trails see steady local foot traffic during sunny afternoons and weekends, but the peak is generally uncrowded compared to central city viewpoints.
