St George's Church

St George's Church is a wooden cruciform church built in 1706 and affiliated with the Church of Norway. Visitors go here to see the historic timber architecture and to visit the leprosy museum located on the same site, which documents the medical history of the region.

Getting There

The church is located within walking distance of Bergen city centre. Depending on your starting point downtown, the walk typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Time Required

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the church interior and the accompanying museum exhibits.

When to Visit

The site is generally quiet, though it is best to visit during daylight hours to appreciate the exterior woodwork. There are no specific peak seasons that cause extreme crowding, but typical tourist peaks occur during the summer months.
