Overview

Ulriken is the tallest of the seven mountains surrounding Bergen. Visitors go for hiking trails of varying difficulty, broad views over the city, and the summit restaurant. A cable car provides direct transit to the top for those who choose not to hike.

Getting There

From central Bergen, local buses take around 15 to 20 minutes to reach the lower cable car station. From the base, the cable car ascends to the peak in several minutes, while walking up the mountain trail takes roughly 1 to 2 hours.

Time to Spend

Allow 1 to 2 hours if riding the cable car both ways with time to view the landscape or visit the restaurant. Plan for 3 to 4 hours if hiking to the top or exploring further along the mountain paths.

When to Go

Clear days offer the best visibility, as rain and low clouds frequently obstruct views from the summit. Summer brings milder hiking conditions, though the mountain and cable car get crowded during midday and on sunny weekends. Arrive early in the morning to avoid the largest crowds.
