Jerusalem Chords Bridge

Overview

The Jerusalem Chords Bridge is a cable-stayed structure designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Built to carry the light rail, it features a single pylon and steel cables. Visitors come to observe its modern engineering and cross the glass-enclosed pedestrian walkway on foot.

Getting There

Located at the western entrance to the city near the Central Bus Station, the site is easily reached by public transport. A light rail ride from the city centre takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes. From Ben Gurion Airport (TLV), high-speed trains connect to the adjacent station in about 20 to 25 minutes.

Time to Allow

Plan for 20 to 40 minutes. This provides enough time to walk across the pedestrian bridge and view the structure from street level.

When to Visit

Late afternoon and evening offer good lighting, including artificial illumination after dark. Midday in summer is hot with minimal shade. The area serves as a major transit hub, so expect dense commuter crowds during weekday peak hours.

What to Combine It With

You can easily pair a visit with nearby points of interest:

  • Bible Lands Museum (1.6km)
  • Shrine of the Book (1.8km)
  • Israel Museum (1.9km)
  • West Jerusalem (2km)
