Bhaktapur is a city in the Kathmandu Valley, 13 km east of Kathmandu, with a long history as Nepal's capital until the late 15th century. It's a wonderful place to wander its streets and soak in the atmosphere of an old royal capital.

Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple is a Hindu temple on the banks of the Bagmati River, east of Kathmandu. Known as a sacred site dedicated to Shiva, it draws pilgrims from all over the world.

Narayanhiti Palace
Narayanhity Palace served as the residence of Nepal's royal family and the site where major state affairs were discussed, featuring a grand building, gardens, and an audience hall. Destroyed by an earthquake, it was rebuilt during King Mahendra's reign in 1936 and remains in that form today.

Changu Narayan Temple sits atop a hill in Bhaktapur and, built in the 4th century, is considered one of the oldest Hindu temples in Nepal. Dedicated to Vishnu, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

The Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur, is known as the tallest Shiva statue in the world. It's about 20 km from Kathmandu, making it an easy day trip from the city.

Singha Durbar
Singha Durbar is a palace that once housed several administrative ministries of the Nepali government, built in 1908 by Chandra Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana. It served as government offices for a long time, but its main building was severely damaged during protests in 2025.

The Bagmati River is a sacred waterway flowing through Kathmandu Valley, with the Hindu holy site of Pashupatinath Temple standing on its banks. Here you can witness distinctive Hindu customs, including cremation rites held along the riverbank.
