Ratna Park

Ratna Park is a public green space located in central Kathmandu. Named after Queen Ratna, the second wife of King Mahendra, the park was specifically designed for children. Travelers visit this area for a brief respite from the urban density of the city center or as a transit point between major landmarks.

Getting There

The park is situated in the heart of Kathmandu, between Rani Pokhari and Tundikhel. Because it is centrally located, it is accessible via short taxi rides or rickshaws from most central hotels. Depending on traffic conditions, travel time from nearby residential or commercial hubs typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Visit Duration

Since the park is primarily a small recreational area, most visitors spend between 30 minutes and one hour here. It serves more as a resting spot than a destination requiring a full day of exploration.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon are the most suitable times to visit to avoid the midday heat. The park can become crowded during public holidays and weekends when local families gather. The autumn and spring seasons offer the most stable weather for outdoor walking.

Nearby Attractions

The park's central location makes it easy to combine with other nearby sites on foot:

  • Ghanta Ghar (0.3km)
  • Sankata Temple (0.4km)
  • Pancha Kashmiri Takiya Masjid (0.4km)
  • Shahid Gate (0.6km)
